Since its incorporation, the City of Cuyuna has taken great pride in maintaining a strong, well equipped, and progressive fire department to protect its citizens and properties. The members of the CFD recently spearheaded the drive for a new fire barn. While all members volunteer, each actively trains to respond to chemical, natural and fire disasters. Most members have achieved Fire Fighter I training and several are certified as training instructors. The CFD provides coverage for Cuyuna as well as a portion of Rabbit Lake Township. As the department does maintain a high level of certification, property owners realize a very significant cost savings in their property insurance premiums. Also, mutual-aid agreements exist with Crosby, Ironton, Deerwood and the Department of Natural Resources to share fire-fighting resources. Established in 1910, the CFD recently celebrated its first centennial.
