The City Attorney provides legal representation to the City of Cuyuna as an entity. The Office of the City Attorney engages in three major activities. First, the Office prosecutes violations of the City’s laws, enforcing ordinances adopted by the City Council. (Cuyuna delegates prosecutions of State Law violations to the Crow Wing County Attorney). Second, the Office provides legislative counsel, drafting and revising the City’s code of ordinances and advising the City Council and any Committees and Commissions on the meaning of legislative enactments. Third, the Office provides general legal counsel and representation to the City, drafting documents, advising City officials and managers on compliance with the law, representing the City in court or supporting outside counsel, negotiating on the City’s behalf, and otherwise using legal procedures to support and defend the lawful decisions of City officials and agencies.

Mr. Bender serves as City Attorney for Serpent Lake Sanitary Sewer District and also for Cuyuna. He has had a primary focus in Municipal Law and has been a member of Minnesota Association of City Attorneys for 13 years.  Michael also operates his law office in Crosby at 15 E. Main St. with Jean M. Gustafson, Attorney, engaged in the general practice of law.
